What can you pay?

In our assessment of whether your debt can be cancelled on the basis of an individual assessment, we first calculate your ability to pay. This shows whether there is room in your budget to pay off your debt.

The calculation depends on:

  • Your income, as declared by you
  • Your expenses, as declared by you
  • Whether you are single or cohabiting
  • Whether you have provider duties
  • Your disposable income

Disposable income

Disposable amount is a statutory amount that you must have for other expenses, such as food, insurance, mobile, internet and hygiene articles. The amount depends on whether you are single or cohabiting, and whether you have children under the age of 18 living at home.

We compare your debt and other circumstances with your ability to pay and determine whether your debt can be cancelled fully, partly or not at all.
