Interest

The debt collection interest rate is 7.75 % per year from 8 January 2024

Examples of how much you have to pay (interest rate: 7.75 %)

When we receive your debt for collection, the debt collection interest rate is calculated as from the first day of the following month. The interest is accrued as simple day-to-day interest on the principal (the original debt without interest) and fees (e.g. reminder fees).

The debt collection interest rate also applies to student loans.

Interest rate development from 1 July 2023 to today
Period  The debt collection interest rate
January 8, 2024 - 7.75 %
July 7, 2023 - January 7, 2024 7.25 %
July 1, 2023 - July 6, 2023 5.9 %

The interest rate is normally adjusted semi-annually.

Debt without interest

You do not pay interest on fines imposed under the Danish Penal Code (Straffeloven).

Exceptions – agreed interest

  • If you have agreed an interest rate on your debt with the municipality (e.g. for a housing allowance loan), or if the interest rate is expressly stated in a loan agreement, you must continue to pay the agreed interest rate, instead of the debt collection interest rate.
  • If you have debts abroad, the interest rate may be different.
